All You Need To Know About The TOC Process In NIOS Board
13 Jul,

TOC or Transfer of Credits is a unique feature provided by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) board. The TOC feature helps students from other boards to easily shift to the NIOS board without having to retake certain examinations.
TOC is one of the primary reasons why students are admitted to the NIOS board. If you are applying for NIOS admission in Varanasi you should consider transferring your credits from your previous board.
Here is all you need to know about the transfer of credits from your current board to the NIOS board.
What Does The TOC Process Entail?
TOC is especially helpful for those students who were unable to clear their ICSE or CBSE board exams and would like to retake their board exams through NIOS.
Many times students can clear some of the subjects but not all of them. In such a situation, students can transfer their marks for up to two subjects from their current board examination results to the NIOS board.
This ensures that students don’t need to retake examinations that they have already cleared and concentrate on the rest of the subjects. However, the two subjects for which the credits are to be transferred need to be within the NIOS subject list. You can check with an NIOS centre in Varanasi regarding which subject credits can be transferred to the NIOS board.
How To Sign Up For The TOC Process?
Using the TOC process to transfer your credits is fairly simple. When you are applying for NIOS admission in Varanasi find the TOC form on the NIOS website. Fill out the subject list of your board examinations along with your prior board marks. Now select the subjects for which you would like to carry over the credits to the NIOC board, and tick those options in the TOC column.
Once you have submitted the online form, you need to mail a set of documents to the NIOS centre. This includes a printout of your registration form, your mark sheet along with reference and enrollment number written on the back, and the original result from your current board examination. You can send these documents via mail or you can also visit the NIOS centre in Varanasi to drop them off.
If you are taking an on-demand NIOS exam, you will have to mail your documents to the NIOS headquarters. But, if you are taking the regular NIOS exam then providing documents to the regional centre will suffice.
Please note that if you send a Xerox or printout of your mark sheet and result you will not be eligible for the TOC process. If you have already applied for NIOS in Varanasi you can always go back and add the TOC service to your application.
NIOS Is A Student-Friendly Board
NIOS has set up the TOC process because it follows the open education model which empowers students to progress at their own pace. So, if you are happy with some of the marks you have achieved in your current board exam then you have the option to retain them.
The TOC process ensures that you do not end up studying for the same exam twice and waste time. Rather, you will now have a better chance as you can prepare for the rest of the subjects.
